The moast of you know we have left Costa Rica by know.
All in all it has been a great experience this journey we have had in CR. We have seen and done lots here. We have been talking of our impressions of CR and we think it’s a really beautiful country, with its forests and wildlife.
Those places we visited at the pacific coast weren’t so nice for us as a family. There I think we should have gone to some other places instead, but this is hard to know before you have been there. These places like Playa Hermosa, Jaco, Mal Pais/playa Carmen, Samara wasn't all that. If you travel without children and love to surf and party, those places are more suitable I guess. That small place we visited with that 4 wheeler one day called Montezuma was really nice though.
Arenal was really nice we both thought. The fantastic nature, we really loved it. A lot to see and experience there, lot of it costs some money, but that’s just how it is.
I have quite a story to tell from Arenal.
At our third hotel in Arenal, the place called Arenal Hostel Resort, the same night when we checked in i got talking to a fellow there who said that he was the manager of the place. He was an American, but quite quickly told me that he was born in Cuba. I got a bit interested and asked him a bit about he's family and so.... He claimed to be the son of The one and only Ernesto Che Guevarra. I didn't know what to say in the beginning, I just let him talk. And he told some stories. But he was talking so slowly.. We sat "a few beers time" and he kept telling stories. He also told me that he had proof upstairs in he's room of what he was telling me was true. He also told me at that time we were sitting there talking there was two people at the hostel just there to document he's life before he died. He said that I’d really love to talk to them, they were really interesting people. This fellow that called himself Tomas was clearly physically sick, he didn't move around very well. He told me that he had bone cancer and didn't have very much time left. To be born in 64, this was way too soon.We sat there talking and I couldn't quite believe what I was listening to.. Was I really sitting there and talking to the son of Che..
I told him that I had been to Cuba few years ago, and showed him a few pictures I had taken there (at my FB page). He was apparently born in Santa Clara were I had a nice picture from, and he got all misty in he's eyes and quiet when he saw that.. I really didn't know what to say or do. Later he wondered if I had heard about he's group called Los Santos. I couldn’t say, Los Santos no, not sure about that one.
He had to get up and talk to some people that came in to the Hostel and I tried to Google some of the things he told me. Could not find a son of Che called Tomas... Lots of things started just to look to suspicious. Who is this guy.. Nothing of what he had told me could I confirm somewhere.. Was he for real or not? After a short while he came back and we continued our conversation. He started telling stories that he hadn't told many, he said. He's group, Los Santos was responsible of killing many of the "famous" and bad people around the world. Unsolved murder cases, like JFK, he told they stood behind.. This started to get crazy. He himself was the man that shoots and killed Pablo Escobar. It was he's group Los Santos that stood behind this and many others. He "confessed" to have shot and killed 184 people..... OKAY... this is crazy, big time!
When I told him that I had been in Guatemala a few times he asked if I'd never had seen writings all walls and so, ether Los Santos or Santo Tomas. Santo Tomas actually ringed a bell in my mind; there is an old Saint in Guatemala that was called that. Now he claimed to be that Saint.. hehe.. I guess it was time to see he's evidence up in he's room. He told me to bring my camera because what I was about to see not many had seen before me.. So of course I brought my camera. When we got in there first he took down a book. This was a book about Che, a well-documented book....-that anyone properly could get a hold of with a little work. We sat down and he showed me some photos in the book that he really liked, and again he got really misty in he's eyes.. Some tears actually fell from he's eyes.
It was so weird and acward. And still he was talking so slowly and strangely, and nodding slowly and confirming he's identity when I asked, and I had to ask a few times hehe.. Ok I was still waiting for the evidence of he's legasy. He got the final evidence out:
It was this, the T-shirt that he had made himself. hehe.. Didn’t know where or what to do with myself.. He was still so serious. This T-shirt was like a secret document that linked him to Che. hehe.. Crazy fellow..
I talked to someone else working at this hostel the next day, and he could tell me that he had just gotten to crazy, and that he was going to be fired from he's job at the end of January..
Arenal was the place we enjoyed the most. It was so green and beautiful, and lots of colorful wildlife. Just amazing!
Our next destination was Tortugero. This was a small remote small place with around only 800 inhabitants. It’s famous for its beaches where many of the big sea turtles that exist come to nest. It wasn't that season at this time but we wanted to see the place anyway. It was described in our book as mini Amazon, with huge diverse wildlife in a small concentrated place. We had to take a boat the last hour to get there. That was the only way there except for a small airplane, that was also possible. That place was really small, that was for sure. The people there didn't seem to like the tourists that much, except for those that worked with the/could make money of them.. But I guess that is understandable, so many tourists in such a small place.
We found a nice place to stay there thanks to two Israeli friends we met in Arenal. They had just been there and recommended this place. It had the Caribbean on the one side and the river on the other. The "big" thing to do here was to go out with a canoe early in the morning with a guide to see the wildlife in the small rivers and mangrove areas. Gry was the first one out this time. She saw some Caimans, monkeys, Oters and lots of birds. The next day was my turn. We both thought it was a great experience. So quiet in the morning, just paddling in the jungle with the canoe looking and listening to the great wild life there.
Here is some of our pictures of our canoe tours and walks in the nearby jungle:The other (sorry, a bit unclear pic..:

Jesus Christ lissard
I was out walking in the jungle, and run out of water, and i took a coconut and managed to peal it.. but was thinking of how to break it without spilling the water inside.. Didn't have to think long, a fellow with a machete came along.. and within two minutes I had it like this:
Coco to drink and eat.. just perfect!
A venomus yellow Viper, a bit unclear but anyway..:

I had to go with the Police a few times.. I got robbed. It all went pretty quick and nothing happend with anyone of us (Gry wasn't there and Mr V was sleeping good). He got around 50 dollars or so.. that will cost him over 10 years in prison, thats bad luck. Don't know if I should laugh or not.. He got taken the day after I reported the robbery, I had gotten he's name from some kids in the strees that also saw what happend.. I was at the court and gave my statement, and I had to ID him too. To do this they had made a line up like you see in the movies. But this was maybe a bit different. hehe.. They had taped cardbord paper over a window and cut a small hole in it so I could see thru. I almoast started laguhing when I saw this. But anyway it worked out. They had put four people inside the building, behind this window, and I was standing outside ofcourse..all this took about 7 hours...Next day I had to go back again, to do a testemony in front of a judge and the robber. This day it took only about 4 hours...
And It's more to this storie but I can't write about all the details here on a public page.. All I can say is that the Police gave med more worries than the robbery it self.. Crazy stuff, but a great story! hehe.
Gry taking over with writing this last part.
Now it is time to leave Talamanca and Costa Rica. we have a new adventure in front of us.Buenos Aires Here we come!
..We met a nice lady from Holland on the busstation, and she got piked up by a friend from san jose.. I asked if her friend could give us a ride too, and that was ok. It saved us a lot of time! We jumped off at the lady,s hotel and took a taxi to our place. Our hotel was a really nice "ranch hotel" just outside San Jose, called Margaritas Airport B & B . the owner was so nice, and also from Holland! We know a lot of great dutch people!! This was a great end to our stay in Costa Rica. The hotel had a beautyful garden, a pool, a tenniscourt and a little cousy breakfastplace.. The place was very "homecousy" and all of the guests talked to eachother like we where almost old friends or something. The room was beautyful and cousy as well. The owner has great taste! This big room with room for 6 people, was only 80 dollars per nigth. It was really wourth it! We went to eat at a bad resturant and got straight home to bed. We had a good nigth sleep. that was good because the day after we where flying to Buenos aires. That was one long day...We went to the airport at 12.30. took the plane to lima (Peru) first and from Lima, directly to Buenos Aires, Argentina. We landet in BA 04.30 local time. We hd to set the time 3 hours forward. We were very tired at this moment.. But in these countries everybody who has a child are always first in line everywhere! This is great;) It should have been like that in Norway and europe too... Our hotel in Buenos Aires, a great hotel called Costa Rica actually. We needed a smooth transition.. We went straight to bed and woke up 12.30 the day after. Viktor also. Now he sleeps till 10 everyday! We LOVE this timedifference!!
To be continued.....
